Before operating a ISUZU fire fighting truck, thorough preparation is crucial. Check the lubricating oil levels in the bearing housing and priming pump; replenish if insufficient, and ensure all remaining taps and valves are closed. Depending on the water source, there are two common methods for priming and filling the tank. When using pond water, first connect one end of the suction pipe to the pump's inlet, and insert the other end (equipped with a filter) into the pond. Then close the rear inlet valve and open the priming valve to fill the tank. When using fire hydrant water, simply connect the hydrant to the external inlet of the tank using a fire hose, allowing water to flow directly into the tank.
To release water from the ISUZU fire truck, first open the rear inlet valve and start the fire pump. If low-pressure water is required, open the low-pressure ball valve after the pump is running; water will then flow out at low pressure. If a water cannon is needed, close the low-pressure outlet ball valve and open the water cannon ball valve while maintaining low pressure; this will allow the water cannon to extinguish the fire. Both of these operations rely on the water stored in the tank and the proper functioning of the fire pump.
After using the fire truck's water pump, several precautions must be taken. First, open all remaining water valves on the pump to drain all residual water, then close the valves to prevent freezing and ensure it is ready for the next use. If the pump has handled seawater, sewage, corrosive water, or foam mixtures, it must be rinsed with clean water for at least one minute to remove any residual liquid. Regularly check the lubricating oil in the bearings; if the oil level is low, replenish it promptly. After use in winter, run the piston pump several times to drain any remaining water and prevent freezing damage. Finally, the pump must never be run without water for more than one minute, as prolonged dry running can cause serious damage.
Following these steps and precautions will ensure the fire truck is operated correctly and safely, extend equipment life, and maintain readiness for emergency response.
